Wisdom is rarely gained from a road that’s paved straight and smooth.

I think most of us would love to have wisdom.

More than any other virtue, wisdom could very well turn out to be the most advantageous.

Think about it… If we have wisdom, all the decisions we make would be based on insight from seeing the whole picture. We’d be able to give advice to our loved ones, in a kind and loving manner – not from a place of judgment. We’d be able to understand ourselves and the actions we take.

But the reality is – we’re not always “wise”.

Occasionally, that’s because we’re human. It’s a common and natural thing to “jump to conclusions” or form opinions hastily without thinking through a particular situation. We do what feels right and good at the moment, without thinking of the big picture – like a wise person would do.

Other times, we’re not wise because we tend to avoid lessons that are learned the hard way. In other words, we take the easy way out.

Today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. post suggests that wisdom comes from difficult, if not painful, circumstances. Or at the very least, living through those circumstances… and learning from them.

In the Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verses, King Solomon tells us that wisdom is found through discernment, stored up as knowledge. He also says that fools, the opposite of “the wise”, speak without discernment which invites their own ruin.

The Tiny Words. Big Life. takeaway is that wisdom is something to be sought after. It is more precious than gold and silver. And, it doesn’t come easy. So, pray to God for wisdom – that He would impart the knowledge, as King Solomon said, into our minds and our mouths for sharing and living. For without it, our words will be senseless and our mouths are like that of a fool.

Finally, be wise enough to know that wisdom comes from God through the events in our lives. Be open to learn and let God do what He does. He always keeps His promises.

So, now that you know… “Wise up!”

Proverbs 10:13-14

13 Wisdom is found on the lips of the discerning,
but a rod is for the back of one who has no sense.

14 The wise store up knowledge,
but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.
