Money itself is no more evil than a sparrow, but people don’t worship sparrows.

I don’t know anyone that worships sparrows but I do know people that worship money. I hate to admit it but I’ve been guilty of it myself. In fact, if I don’t check myself constantly, I can slip into that at any moment.

Not that I view myself as enjoying money any more or less than the next person. After all, money can do a lot of things. Of course, we all know the saying that “Money can’t buy happiness.” I’ve found that to be true as well.

Back to the sparrow worshippers. Well, there aren’t any so let’s get back to something else.

Money.

If you’re consumed by it… If you think that if you only had more of it then all your problems would disappear… I’m talking to you… and to me.

The object of our desire is something that God pays very close attention to. It’s the one thing that always got the Israelites in trouble. They would lose focus on God and began to worship false idols, which is another name for money.

The Tiny Words. Big Life. “AHA!” is this: Pray.

If you’ve been following the blog, you’ll notice that many of the Tiny Words. Big Life.AHA!” moments begin with that word, “Pray”. That’s because we can’t do it alone. We need God’s intervention in our lives to help us do it. In this case, it’s a big ask – or at least it is on our part. That’s because money is viewed by most of us as the one thing that could solve most of our problems.

It’s not true.

So, again… Pray. Pray for God’s grace and mercy to show you, to change your heart, to see the beauty of life and all His creation as the true “currency” in living a fruitful life. It’s not in the money. It’s in the blessings. But, we have to learn how to see things that way and only God can do that.

To prove it, I’ll make a bet with you. I’ll bet you ten sparrows that if you ask God for deliverance from the love of money, he’ll do it. By the way, if you make that bet, you’d better find yourself a birdcage.

1 Timothy 6 : 10

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
