We don’t choose who we are… we choose who we become.

If you think about it, it probably wouldn’t work out very good if we could. That is–choose who we are. That’s because we’re imperfect and too easily influenced by what we think would be good for us.

Take today’s Tiny Words Bible verse… The apostle Paul says that our basic nature is hostile to God. In fact, he goes one step further and says it is impossible for us to live in accordance with God’s laws. Based on that, I have a single question: How then would we ever be able to choose which version of ourselves will make us happy?

Think about it… If you could choose who you are… Would it be a famous professional athlete? Maybe a Hollywood star? Or a singer whose songs are played over and over?

Well, I’m here to tell you that based on what the Bible says, as well as the laws of probability, you’d end up wishing you were someone else.

Why? Because we’re rarely satisfied with anything for long. We want what we have and then some. In addition, the Evil One is always creeping around and putting things in our head. Remember, it’s what he does…

Instead, focus on who you’ll become… on making yourself better. How about being a better father? (Yes, sign me up 🙁 ) Or a better husband, son, or daughter? (Again, sign me up.) But what about a better person or a better child of God?

Too many times, we think that being someone who seemingly has it all would answer all our questions and heal all our wounds.

Nothing could be farther from the truth. Become a better you. No one can do that better than you can. And pray for help. God is waiting.

Romans 8 : 7

The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
