Your compassion makes the biggest difference when it’s put into practice toward those who rarely receive compassion.

What does the feeling of “compassion” prompt you to do? Is it a hopeful thought that the object of your compassion will somehow miraculously climb out of whatever pit they’re in?

If so, there’s certainly nothing wrong with that. We all do it.

Or, does it spur you into action? Most of the time, I’d guess, the answer is “No”, as it is with me. Why? Because we’re all busy. Everybody has things to do… places to be. We simply don’t have the time to get out of our car and help every homeless person that we see on the side of the road. Or do we?

In reading today’s Tiny Words Bible verse, what is Luke talking about? Is it “compassion from afar”? Is it “wait for someone else to help with the poor and needy”?

No, it’s not. It’s “compassion with action”. And, it’s actually more than that… Luke is telling us that the “action” part of compassion is what Jesus told us to do.

So give the word “compassion” some thought. Let the Tiny Words and scripture move your personal needle in the direction of following the commandments of Jesus.

Take your compassion to the next level and do something compassionate.

Acts 20 : 35

32 “Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. 33 I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. 34 You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. 35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”
