It’s nice to share some moments with others but no one owns your moments except you.

Romans 14:11-12

Growing up in the 60’s, there was a very popular TV program called The Ed Sullivan Show that featured a comedian named Flip Wilson. (For those of you who came along later, this is the same TV show that launched The Beatles – so it’s sort of an iconic part of our history.)

Flip was a regular performer on the show and did some hilarious skits. One in particular was where he’d do something naughty (and funny). Then, after getting caught, he’d use the phrase, “The Devil made me do it!

In today’s culture, we’d say that his saying went viral. It seemed like every person in the country began using it in real life

If you got pulled over by the cops for speeding…

The Devil made me do it!

If you got caught eating the last piece of cherry pie…

The Devil made me do it!

You get the picture.

While the saying might be true, this post offers a slightly different take on who’s responsible.

It’s us… It’s you… It’s me…

Today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verse backs it up. The Apostle Paul tells us that “every tongue will acknowledge God” and “each of us will give an account of ourselves to God“.

In other words, Paul is telling us that God will be our judge.

And He’s not buying Flip Wilson’s excuse – even though He knows all about the Devil – that he roams around the world creating havoc and luring people into sin.

But, in the end, you are responsible for your beliefs, faithfulness, and obedience.

It’s called accountability.

The Tiny Words. Big Life. takeaway is this: Pray to accept responsibility for your own actions. Pray for the strength to resist the Devil and his constant temptations for sin. Pray for the courage to make decisions that please God.

And if you get caught eating the last piece of cherry pie, take this Blogmeister’s advice: Don’t try and blame it on the cook for making such an irresistible dessert. You can also save your breath if you’re thinking of saying that you were only trying to keep someone else from getting fat…

Nobody’s buying it…

The thing to do is to own up to your evil deed (as you swallow the last bite).

Then, with all the confidence that the power of God provides, proclaim in a loud voice…

The Devil don’t make me do nothin’!

Romans 14:11-12

11 It is written: “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will acknowledge God.’” 12 So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God.

The devil will always TRY to make me do it but it will be up to me to ask God for His strength Not to do it.
