You can learn as much from silence as you can from words if you listen with your eyes and see with your heart.

Matthew 13:10-13

“I’ll believe it when I see it.”

We’ve all said that, or at least we’ve thought it.

Why?

Because the world we live in is physical in nature.

On Earth, we live by our five senses; sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell.

While we’d all like to have at least one more, we often fail to use the five we’ve got!

That goes for everyone except my Momma…

As a young boy, I got into my share of mischief. And when I did, that’s when her superpowers cranked up. She could see things I did that no one else could see. She could hear things I said that no one else could hear. And she could smell a rat if I tried to tell her something that didn’t quite add up. 🙂

Lookin’ back, I love her for that, (and so much more), and I praise God she still uses those powers today to keep me in line.

Today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verse comes from the mouth of Jesus speaking to His disciples. They are questioning Him about why He uses parables when He talks to people that don’t know Him to be their Lord.

He tells them that the things they (the disciples) know about the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven hasn’t been given to others like they’ve been given to them.

So again, the question. Why did Jesus use parables? Why didn’t He just come out and say it plainly?

Here’s a hint… it has something to do with a sixth sense. (it helps to have a little of my Momma in you – which would benefit you greatly under any circumstances…)

Jesus used parables for those with a receptive heart to hear and see things of a spiritual nature. Parables have been called “earthly stories with a heavenly meaning.”

To understand them, you must first understand this: You’ll never enter the Kingdom of Heaven if you believe only what you can see, hear, touch, taste, and smell.

The Tiny Words. Big Life. takeaway is this: Pray to release the need to see it, hear it, touch it, taste it, or smell it in order for something to be real. Pray to live by faith that God’s plan for your eternal life is through Jesus – not by the things you do or say. Pray to hear the things that cannot be heard and see the things that cannot be seen.

And the next time you’re wondering if somebody did something that they don’t want you to know about, think about what Jesus said and my Momma did… Listen with your eyes and see with your heart.

Matthew 13:10-13

10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

11 He replied, â€śBecause the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
