If you count your eggs before they hatch, life will probably invite the neighbors over for a breakfast buffet.

Proverbs 16:9

Have you ever counted your eggs and come up short when it’s time to put them in the refrigerator?

What happened? Did you miscount? Or, did one of the eggs hatch and run off as you made your way inside from the barn?

Probably neither.

The answer to the mystery of the missing egg is that “life showed up”.

Growing up, a friend of mine’s father put it another way and was famous for saying, “It’s always something…”

What does all this mean?

Well, by the grace of God, we have a book with all the answers.

In today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verse, we find King Solomon talking about plans. As we know, King Solomon was the richest man in the world. It would seem that if anyone could plan his own life, it would be him.

But he was also the wisest.

That’s why he knew it was ultimately fruitless to rely on his own plans.

Now don’t jump to conclusions and think that Tiny Words. Big Life. is advising you to not plan anything at all… that would indeed be unwise.

By all means, when a hurricane is approaching, board up your house.

Just be sure to take God with you on your way to the lumber store.

Before we close out today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. post – let’s look at one more Bible verse. In Romans 8:28, the Apostle Paul wrote these divinely-inspired words that point to God’s hand in all we do, “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

The Tiny Words. Big Life. takeaway is this: Pray for God to bless your plans. Pray for God to show you the steps you should be taking. Pray for the strength to step out and do the things that God is calling you to do. Pray to see God’s plan as good, even when things don’t turn out as you hope.

Remember, it’s not about plans… it’s all about trust.

God’s got this.

So the next time you count your chickens and then see the neighbors walking down the sidewalk, on their way to your house to take a seat at the breakfast buffet, open the front door and holler, “Come on in, I’ve been expecting you!

From what I know about meddling neighbors, they’ll turn around and go back home.

In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.
