Faith and obedience are the yeast and the oven to the bread of life.

It’s no wonder that most bakers carry a few extra pounds. 🙂

Sorry for the characterization… maybe I’m guilty of stereotyping based on the Pillsbury Doughboy ??

Although it can be done, as evidenced by the Israelites fleeing Egypt, but baking bread without yeast and an oven produces less than desirable results.

Have you ever thought of our faith as the yeast of our spiritual fruit?

According to science, it takes twenty billion yeast cells to weigh an ounce. That’s 20 with nine zeroes.

Sometimes, the weight of our faith is just as tiny as that.

The job of yeast is to consume sugar in all its various forms. It’s like twenty billion little “sugar eaters” running around in a bowl of flour as the dough begins to rise.

If you think about it, our faith is like “sin eaters”… The more faith we have, the more sin that gets eaten – also known as obedience. That’s because when we’re obedient, we refrain from sin. In that sense, faith gives us the spiritual energy, similar to what a yeast cell gets from sugar, to be more obedient.

In today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verse, we read that God will reward the faithful.

So, what are we to do?

The Tiny Words. Big Life. “AHA!” moment is this: Like a covered bowl of flour, yeast, sugar, and water, we must remain faithful that God will complete our transformation from these basic ingredients into a delicious dough that’s ready to fill the belly of all that are hungry!

One final thought about the bakery… As Christians, we should strive to look like the baker – with large girths made from feasting on the bread of life, aka the word of God.

Hebrews 6:10-12

10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11 We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. 12 We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.
