Many years ago, “smart” people thought the world was flat. Today, they think we evolved from monkeys. I’m thinkin’ tomorrow ain’t lookin’ very good…

First of all, I’ve got nothing against monkeys. They’re cute enough. As a matter of fact, while I was growing up, they even had a band with their own TV show! And, for the record, no pun intended, one of their smash hits was “I’m a believer.”

But, before we get into the bananas of today’s post, let’s take a look at the first verse of the lyrics from that iconic song (written by Neil Diamond):

I thought love was only true in fairytales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Love was out to get me
That’s the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all my dreams
Then I saw her face, now I’m a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind
I’m in love, I’m a believer
I couldn’t leave her if I tried

Just for fun, I HIGHLY recommend that you Google the phrase “I’m a believer” and take a listen. For those of us who grew up in the 60s, it’ll take you back with a smile on your face.

As far as the lyrics, let’s do something even funner. When you listen to the song, replace the word “her” with “His”. Who knew that The Monkees produced a Christian album? 🙂

Ok, let’s get back to this whole thing about “science”…

Science can be a convenient way to bamboozle people into believing what you want them to believe.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not “anti-science”. Without it, our world would be a dark place with no electricity. Think about it. Without science, many of the things we take for granted in life wouldn’t exist. There’s the polio vaccine and penicillin. What about x-rays?

But sometimes, science has to take a back seat to faith.

I know, some people will call this “ridiculous”… to believe in things that are unseen – things that cannot be “proven”. As the Apostle Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:18, “So we do not set our sights on the things we can see with our eyes. All of that is fleeting; it will eventually fade away. Instead, we focus on the things we cannot see, which live on and on.”

This is, after all, the basis of our Christian faith.

Speaking of the basis of our faith, today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verse is where it all begins. Regarding our discussion of science – the beginning wasn’t the “Big Bang” (unless God Himself lit the fuse!). So, if you call yourself a Christian and don’t believe Genesis 1:1… I’m no theologian but I’d say you’ve got a problem with your claim.

The Tiny Words. Big Life. takeaway is this. Don’t disregard science entirely but in return, don’t regard it entirely either. There’s been far more scientific theories proven wrong than proven right.

In the end, we have to pray to God that He gives us wisdom to know the difference between fact and fiction. When all else fails, read The Bible because as Christians, we know that faith is stronger than Fe (for us “unscientific” people – that’s the Chemical Symbol for Iron).

Finally, I invite you to discover what God is telling you about this post through prayer.

Genesis 1:1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
