With each tick of the clock, a petal from the rose does fall.

Job 12:9-11

Botox doesn’t stand a chance…

Plastic surgery? A little nip here and a little tuck there – yeah, they’ll last for a time.

But God’s design cannot be defeated.

We can do things to slow it down or mask it’s progress, but in the end, God’s intended creation wins.

The point of today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. post is not to speak out on whether or not these temporary measures are good or bad but rather to highlight the inevitability of their adversary and to remind us to praise God in all things.

Today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verse comes from the book of Job where we find Job rebuking his so-called friends after they basically accuse him of causing all of his own misfortunes.

Earlier in the book, Job’s sons and daughters were killed when a windstorm collapsed the house they were in. Job responded by saying, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.”

This kind of acceptance of God’s sovereignty and will is difficult for us to attain.

But that’s what God wants us to do. He wants us to do more than praise Him during the good times. He wants us to accept His sovereignty and earnestly seek the strength to praise Him in the storms of life.

The Tiny Words. Big Life. takeaway is this: Pray to release the selfishness of desiring only good things in your life.

I should probably stop here for a minute while you think about that one…

Okay, that’s probably long enough for you to think I’m nuts for saying that but… we have to remember that dark days will come in this life. No one is immune. And I’m not saying that we should wish for bad things but instead we should pray to accept God’s will regardless of what comes. It’s more of a spiritual mindset and one that will be blessed by God.

So, the next time you schedule that surgical procedure to get your eyelids lifted, ask the doctor to remove the blinders that prevent you from seeing the glorious entirety of God’s design.

Then, after the doctor has looked at you with a puzzled expression and tells you that insurance probably won’t cover it, drop to your knees and ask The One who can do all things.

Then, after you’re freed from the selfishness of a “blue sky” life, you won’t receive a bill.

That debt has already been paid.

His name is Jesus.

Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
10 In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.
11 Does not the ear test words
    as the tongue tastes food?
