An improper dose of vanity is called pride.

From an earthly perspective, pride can be a useful emotion. We can take pride in our appearance, work, and even our landscaping prowess. After all, is it bad that we want our yard to look good?

Of course not.

The issue with pride is not about yard maintenance. It’s about allowing it to prevent us from being obedient to God.

What do I mean by that?

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I’m not going to apologize because he (she) started it.” ?

Pride.

In today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verse, we read King Solomon lamenting, with a sort of newfound realization, that all the things he had done and accomplished were all for naught.

Imagine that. Here’s one of the wisest and most successful men who ever lived, saying that all he had done was “chasing after the wind”.

Regarding obedience… Do you think God cares “who started it?” The fact is that The Evil One actually did that because that’s what he does. Unfortunately, he also very often ends it.

God did not make us in His image to possess pride to the point where we are disobedient. He made us to love one another.

Today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. recommendation is to swallow that wretched pride and let God’s love shine through. Forget “who started it”. You’ll be amazed at how your relationships will blossom from the pollen of redemptive obedience.

Ecclesiastes 2 : 11

Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.
