A pen in the hand of a writer before the battle begins is more powerful than a sword in the hand of a warrior after the battle has begun.

You might expect something like this coming from a writer. 🙂

But it’s true.

Words can defeat more than physical bodies–which is the sword’s specialty. Words can defeat hardened hearts, broken spirits, and anger toward others. Have you ever seen a sword do that?

In today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verse, we read where God is speaking to Joshua, son of Nun, Moses’ aide. Moses has recently passed away, before getting to see the Promised Land. God tells Joshua of His protection and reminds him of His deliverance out of the hands of the Egyptians. He then tells Joshua to keep the written law “always on his lips” for it will make him prosperous and successful.

Can a sword do that?

To me, the gist of this Tiny Words. Big Life. post is not necessarily the words that are written. It’s more a statement about the power of the mind. Words by themselves are just letters on a page. We have to read them and interpret them. As a Christian, we also have the Holy Spirit who will intercede on our behalf for understanding the meaning of words.

So, the Tiny Words. Big Life. takeaway is to not simply read words but to allow them to seep into your soul. Pray over them and let the Creator of All Things burn them into your spirit for His glory.

Then, and only then, will the words defeat the sword.

Joshua 1 : 8

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
