If you’re able to fool yourself, rest assured that you’re not alone.

Psalm 36:1-4

We all know that a con artist is not interested in painting pictures…

Thomas Sowell once said, “Con men have long known… that their job is not to convince skeptics but to enable the gullible to continue to believe what they want to believe.

As it turns out, that second group (the “gullibles”) is pretty big.

But today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. post is not talking about how to keep other people from conning you (us)… We’re talking about how to keep us from conning ourselves – which isn’t as easy as you’d think.

Why?

Well, first of all, the con usually begins because we want to believe something – such as:

“Sure, I’m going to heaven. I’m a good person.”

If that’s you, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news but… you’ve been conned. That ain’t gonna get you there.

How do I know?

Because the Bible says so.

Of course, we’d all like to think that “good people” will go to heaven. After all, that’s the picture that the “artists” are painting. If you listen to them, you’d think that all you’ve got to do to get into heaven is help little ‘ole ladies across the street.

Again, that ain’t gonna get you there.

Today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. Bible verse finds King David singing a song of praise and praying to God about evil people. In verse 2, he says that they (the “artists”) can’t see their sin because they hold themselves above the truth.

As the old saying goes, “Buyer beware.” Stay away from these people.

The Tiny Words. Big Life. takeaway is this: Pray to love the truth and seek it from God alone, through His Holy Word as found only in the Holy Bible. Do not get your truth from the mouths of silver-tongued shysters who only want you to believe their pack of lies. Pray to live the truth when God reveals it to you and pray to share that truth with others.

And the next time an artist wants to paint you a picture for the low, low price of only $99.99, tell them the only artist that paints on your canvas is Jesus!

Psalm 36:1-4

I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes. In their own eyes they flatter themselves too much to detect or hate their sin. The words of their mouths are wicked and deceitful; they fail to act wisely or do good. Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong.
