The jacket of your soul has very large pockets that will carry your life’s work to a very important meeting with a very important judge.

We probably don’t think of our soul being clothed very often.

But in today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. post, I’m asking you to do just that…

BTW, this is an audience participation post.

Imagine your soul – after you’ve left this world. There you stand. You have no possessions. You have no physical body. In fact, you more than likely will have nothing – other than some mysterious lifeform promised by our Creator but not fully understood by His creation. It’s an interesting thought. Perhaps a little bit unsettling… primarily from the vast expanse of the unknown and the finality of it all. Of course, I’m talking about human feelings. Once we actually reach that eternal plateau, our soul will rejoice in the presence of God.

Back to the clothing… So there you are. Imagine a big red jacket (feel free to pick another color if you prefer 🙂 ) and it’s draped over your soul.

Now imagine that you have a large pocket on each side of the jacket. In each one, it’s crammed with things you did in your life. Successes. Failures. Joy. Sadness. Good deeds. Sin.

Did you catch that last one? Okay, maybe the last two. Good deeds and sin.

Now look down at the pockets on your jacket. Which one is packed with more stuff? Would it be the pocket that’s stuffed with the good things or would it be the one stuffed with the bad things, including all the sins you committed in your life?

Another interesting thought. Not a terribly comfortable thought but let’s keep going.

Now imagine that you’re walking down a road (you’re still a soul and you’re wearing your jacket) on your way to a meeting with God. How do you feel about your chances when you have to face Him, The Creator of the World, The Alpha and The Omega? Are you confident that He’ll see you as one who truly lived for Him – worthy of entry into Heaven?

So you keep walking until you come to the end of the road. After you stop, you see a bright light and a table. You then hear a voice saying, “Let’s see what you’ve got. Dump your pockets on the table.”

Nervous and frightened, you obey and begin to unload all the stuff that’s been crammed into the pockets of your jacket. As you lay the things on the table, the piles are getting very high. Once your done, you look at the piles of stuff on the table. Which pile is higher?

Okay, you probably know by now where this is headed.

The Tiny Words. Big Life. takeaway is this: After reading this post, try to always remember the story of the red jacket with the big pockets.

Only you can control what goes in there.

What are you putting in your pockets?

Psalm 9:7-8

The Lord reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. He rules the world in righteousness and judges the peoples with equity.
