A daily walk with Jesus wears a path to a bountiful life.

On this special day, I’m moved to create a slight variation to this Tiny Words. Big Life. quote. To understand why I would do this, you’d have to know that this day is my earthly father’s birthday. If you hang with me for a minute, I’ll share what that variation is.

I just love the word “bountiful”. It makes my heart happy and warm whenever I say it. Few words in our language give off that feeling–it’s almost as if something physical happens when the word comes off my tongue.

Why “bountiful”?

Does it mean bountiful belongings like homes, cars, and enough income that we can enjoy life and not worry about things like mortgage payments and health insurance? Maybe… Does it mean bountiful friends so we never have to be alone? Again, yeah. Maybe…

But my thoughts on bountiful go much deeper than that. When I think of bountiful, I think of the word “plenty” – not in physical luxuries or “stuff” but things that God provides like grace, love, and forgiveness.

That’s gotta be why the word warms my soul.

Perhaps as we age, we see things differently as this was not always the case with me. I was driven by stuff. Thank God, He saw fit to give His grace, love, and forgiveness to a person who didn’t deserve it… not that I do now because none of us are worthy of His provisions. But He sees us differently. Our imperfections are made perfect through His Son Jesus Christ.

So, back to the variation. What do I want to change about a perfectly good Tiny Words. Big Life. quote?

It’s this… My Dad recently passed away. Words can’t express the overwhelming sense of loss that’s felt by me, my Mom, brother and sister. But in the face of such pain, praise God, what a bountiful life that my earthly father lived. He sought Jesus in all he did and God blessed him greatly. And he shared that bountiful life in a bountiful way (sometimes a little too much for those that knew him well…) 🙂

So, I’m going to unofficially rewrite today’s Tiny Words. Big Life. quote to read as follows:

“A Daily Walk with Jesus wears a path to a bountiful life and a victorious death.”

To God be the Glory. Amen.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.
